Osanguide.com is an information guide to Osan Air Base, South Korea. This site was built to provide information to newcomers, military and their families stationed at Osan Air Base and anyone else curious about the base and the local area. Osan Air Base is one of two major airfields (i.e. Kunsan Air Base) operated by the U.S. Air Force and is located just 48 miles from the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The base was established in 1951 as Osan-ni Air Base (after the closest city) or K-55. The area is also significant for two reasons. First, the first Korean War battle between North Korean and U.S. forces (Task Force Smith) was fought just a few miles from the base. Second, one of the most famous battles during the Korean War occurred at Osan's own Hill 180, called The Battle of Bayonet Hill 180.
